January 14: Definition of DESIGN

In David A. Lauer's "Design Basic" the definition of design is "to plan, to organize." Design can take place in everything from painting, drawing, computer programming, film to architecture, automotive construction and the integral parts of a CEO company. However, design incorporates a number of steps. There must first be organization of an idea that deals with a problem that can be solved. Next, one must find a solution to the problem and narrow down the possibilities to one final product. The final product should communicate to the targeted audience what the artist intended. In the end the product should have a form and function, both in which go hand-in-hand.

In the piece It's Time to Get Organized, the elements of design including form and function are included. The artist had an idea, solved a problem and then presented to the audience the way he intended.
