February 2: Andy Goldsworthy

Andy Goldsworthy uses nature within nature to create art. The piece I chose strikes me as interesting. I think that the way he placed the rocks in chromatic order makes the eye draw into the black hole in the center. It creates a radial effect and almost "blackhole"ish feeling.

January 26: Idea for Public Art Piece

For my project for the public art piece, I plan on incorporating part of Mercer's campus (potentially Tatnall Park) with food (MACARONI AND CHEESE!). I will use photoshop not only ro place the food in the landscape buut also to digitally enhance the piece to make it look like actually noodles were placed in the park.

January 21: Public Art

Public art is a way to present art in a way in which the intended audience is struck by the idea in a different way. Installations are often a form of public art. They are frequently placed in places that are unexpected. The environment surrounding the installation is part of the artwork and the artist has taken the time to think of a location where the piece would be most successful. In Cristo's Gates, orange gates draped in cloth were placed in Central Park. This artwork not only caught attention of everyone who passed by, but made them question and think about the piece.

January 19: Form and Content

Form and content are both important aspects of design. Form is visual, seen by the audience and one of the principles of design. Content is what is the subject of the piece or the information being presented. Form and content are the main basis for art such as ads. As seen in the Apple ad, the form is what catches the audiences eye, while the content presents the information in a way to sell the product.

January 14: Definition of DESIGN

In David A. Lauer's "Design Basic" the definition of design is "to plan, to organize." Design can take place in everything from painting, drawing, computer programming, film to architecture, automotive construction and the integral parts of a CEO company. However, design incorporates a number of steps. There must first be organization of an idea that deals with a problem that can be solved. Next, one must find a solution to the problem and narrow down the possibilities to one final product. The final product should communicate to the targeted audience what the artist intended. In the end the product should have a form and function, both in which go hand-in-hand.

In the piece It's Time to Get Organized, the elements of design including form and function are included. The artist had an idea, solved a problem and then presented to the audience the way he intended.
